From the Daily News, Newburyport, Massachusetts, on February 23, 2000

To the editor:

Amesbury Youth Hockey recently sponsored a Bruins Alumni game at Graf Rink. The AYHL Board of Directors would like to thank all of those who helped make the event a success: David Jean for coordinating the project; the B's alumni office and the Bruins players for being incredibly helpful and supportive; the staff at Graf Rink; the Newburyport Elks club; program sponsors who gave of their time and money to help the youth of Amesbury; and all the fans who attended and helped support AYHL.

Because we had microphone problems, I'd like the opportunity to now explain the intermission ceremony. Last summer, the friends and family of the late Paul McGrath ran an extraordinarily organized and successful golf tournament in his memory. The proceeds from that tournament, along with other donations in Paul's name, were earmarked for Amesbury Youth Hockey.

Paul's family (represented by his brother Troy) presented AYHL with a check for $7,500. That money will be used to establish a hockey scholarship fund in Paul's name. AYHL in turn presented Troy and his family with a framed Amesbury jersey. The jersey is one of those recently purchased for our Bantam and Peewee teams. All of the jerseys have Paul's initials embroidered on each shoulder. It is with heartfelt appreciation that AYHL is serving as one way for people to honor Paul's memory.

Ron Starr, President, Amesbury Youth Hockey League
